On 3 November 2016 the Court of Appeal handed down its eagerly awaited decision in Ivey v Genting

The claimant, a world famous gambler, walked into Crockford’s casino in Mayfair and won nearly £8m at Punto Banco in just two sessions. There was no dispute about what he did: it was a card trick called edge-sorting: the only issue was whether it was cheating. The High Court decided that it was and, by a majority of two to one, the Court of Appeal has just agreed, albeit for different reasons. The gambler is now appealing to the Supreme Court. Crockford’s was represented by Christopher Pymont QC and Siward Atkins, who will also be taking the case to the Supreme Court.
