Judgment in Future Sounds Asia v The 1975

The members of the rock band The 1975, represented by Edmund Cullen KC, have succeeded in their application to strike out the claim brought against them by the promoters of the Good Vibes 2023 festival in Malaysia.

The claim arose out of the cancellation of the festival by the Malaysian authorities, alleged to have resulted from the onstage conduct of the band. The claimant alleged that the band members individually owed duties of care to the promoter and/or were liable for inducing a breach of contract on the part of the LLP through which they conducted their touring activities. The High Court has decided on a summary basis that these claims have no real prospect of succeeding.
