Judgment handed down in Core VCT v Soho Square Capital and others [2025] EWHC 1918 (Ch)

On 25 July 2025, judgment was handed down by Tom Smith KC, sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge, in Core VCT v Soho Square Capital and others [2025] EWHC 1918 (Ch), a decision concerning amendment of statements of case and the application of section 32 of the Limitation Act in the context of summary judgment applications. 

Three venture capital trusts, acting by their liquidators, had brought claims against a number of defendants. The claimants sought permission to amend and the defendants sought strike-out and/or summary judgment on (amongst others) limitation grounds.

Jonathan Allcock of Maitland led by Thomas Grant KC of Wilberforce Chambers acted on behalf of the 9th and 10th Defendants, who succeeded in having the claims against them dismissed, and Catherine Addy KC of Maitland leading Daniel Lewis of Wilberforce Chambers and Charles King of Maitland acted on behalf of the Claimants and Applicants.
