Cambridge Analytica

Catherine Addy QC appeared for the Administrators of companies in the group colloquially known as “Cambridge Analytica”, successfully obtaining their appointment as Liquidators despite opposition.

Mr Justice Norris handed down Judgment in Green & Newman v. SCL Group Limited and others [2019] EWHC 954 (Ch) on 17 April 2019. Catherine Addy QC appeared for the Joint Administrators of 6 companies in the group colloquially known as “Cambridge Analytica”, successfully obtaining their appointment as Joint Liquidators despite ‘trenchant’ opposition on behalf of a US Professor of Media claiming that his personal data was misused by Cambridge Analytica.

In opposing the petitions seeking discharge of the administration orders made by Hildyard J in May 2018, compulsory winding up orders and the appointment of the Administrators as Joint Liquidators, the US Professor made “trenchant criticisms” of the officeholders which the Judge described as a “full-blown attack on their personal integrity and their professional competence”. Having carefully considered all of the allegations, the nature of administration applications and the duties imposed upon proposed administrators in such context and post appointment, the Judge concluded that it was appropriate and proper to appoint the incumbent officeholders as Joint Liquidators, who would do justice between all those interested in the liquidation.
