Tahir Azhar & Others V/s Union of India & Others, W.P. (C) No. 1953 of 2021

Siddharth Yadav argues successfully on behalf of Petitioners before The Honourable High Court of Delhi, New Delhi

Siddharth represented the Petitioners in a case where he was instructed by Mr. D. K. Pandey, Mr. Wasim Ashraf, and Mr. Ankit Chadha, Advocates. The Petitioners are four sons of Mr. Azhar Rehan and Mrs. Nikhat Jalal, both of Indian origin, who settled permanently in Benghazi, Libya, with their children. Although the children were born in Libya, their births were not registered with the Indian Consulate. As a result, when the children applied for an Indian passport at the Indian Embassy in Libya, they were denied as they were not recognised as Citizens of India.

Therefore, a Writ Petition under Article 226 of the Constitution of India was filed by the Solicitors representing the Petitioners before the High Court of Delhi, bearing W.P. (C) No. 1953 of 2021. Siddharth Yadav, Senior Advocate ('equivalent to KC') successfully argued on behalf of the Petitioners before the High Court, which granted a judgment in their favour, against the Union of India. The judgment directed the Union of India to recognise the children (Petitioners) as Citizens of India and grant them an Indian passport.
