Rob is one of our Deputy Senior Clerks. He joined Maitland Chambers in 2004, having started his clerking career in 1998. As deputy to John Wiggs, Rob assists in leading the clerking team, focusing on the development of the barristers’ practices, fee negotiation and building and maintaining client relationships.
Working closely with John, he ensures the effective running of a modern chambers. Additionally, Rob is heavily involved with the marketing and promotion of chambers both domestically and internationally, this includes regular visits to offshore jurisdictions.
Outside of chambers, Rob enjoys spending time with his family and keeping himself fit, including cycling, which he often combines with raising money for various charities.
Rob is noted by Legal 500 in their 2021 guide as, "excellent at relationship building, getting added value like training provided and generally ensuring the smooth running of instructions and briefs", and "Good at sourcing counsel based on expertise and if we have to attend “x” hearing in “y timeframe” with a range of costs". Rob has been described as a "great guy", "particularly responsive and commercial", "always on hand", with a client noting he is their "favourite clerk in all of London".
