Michael went up to Cambridge University with an award in classics and read law at Sidney Sussex College, prior to coming top in the Bar Exams.

He was awarded an Inner Temple scholarship and became a pupil of Mr Brian Dillon (later Lord Justice Dillon) at 13 Old Square, Lincoln's Inn, after having spent 18 months working in the City.

Michael’s practice comprises the litigation side of commercial and Chancery work. The leading case on share sale agreements (Senate Electrical) is typical. Fields of practice include commercial litigation, business law, commercial fraud, corporate insolvency, professional negligence, property, equity, intellectual property, breach of confidence and private international law.

He has practised in foreign jurisdictions and has been called generally and ad hoc for cases in Hong Kong, Singapore, Grenada and the East Caribbean States, and the Isle of Man. Michael was appointed as a DTI Inspector into the affairs of Euroseas Securities Ltd.

He was Head of his Chambers from 1996 and joint Head of Maitland Chambers until April 2008. He is a bencher of the Inner Temple and a Deputy High Court Judge.
