James joined Maitland in September 2026, after successfully completing pupillage under the supervision of Olivier Kalfon KC, Laurie Scher, Caley Wright, and Rowena Page. He is developing a broad commercial chancery practice and accepts instructions across all of Chambers’ core areas, including Commercial Litigation & Arbitration, Civil Fraud, Company & Partnership, Insolvency & Asset Recovery, Property, and Offshore & Trusts.

Before coming to the Bar, James obtained a first class law degree and distinction on the BCL at Christ Church, Oxford. He remained at Oxford for a further year to teach contract, trusts, and Roman law. He subsequently worked at Peters & Peters Solicitors, where he was responsible for the content and development of globalsanctions.com, a leading online resource on international sanctions.
