Carolyn has a Chancery practice, with a specific emphasis on banking, insolvency, and property law. Within the banking field she has a specialist’s knowledge of mortgages, guarantees, financial services, derivatives and hedge funds, as well as consumer credit.
This she originally gained in her earlier successful career as an in-house banking lawyer - first as Assistant Legal Advisor at Williams & Glyn’s Bank plc, and then Legal Advisor at Société Générale (London) - advising on all aspects of domestic and international banking. She has also lectured on banking, credit and security law.
Her knowledge of insolvency law grew out of her banking law experience and encompasses a good understanding of cross-border issues, as well as expertise in the property law aspects of insolvency law. She also has a deep knowledge of property law, at present leading a claim in the Privy Council from the Bahamas involving a property dispute in relation to land belonging to a dissolved company, as well as dealing with another right of way dispute in the Bahamas.
She now receives a steady stream of instructions from the Bahamas, recently acting for the liquidator of a Bahamian hedge fund company in a substantial fraud. She also regularly advises on breaches of trust, constructive trust and negligence claims.
