Profile

In 1980 Catherine began practice at 13 Old Square (now Maitland Chambers) with a first in law and a major Inn scholarship. She is recommended by Chambers UK Directory in commercial Chancery, traditional Chancery, insolvency, civil fraud, company and partnership, she is also listed as a leading silk by Chambers Global in dispute resolution and by The Legal 500 in commercial litigation, company, insolvency and partnership.

Catherine's practice includes civil fraud, asset tracing, trusts, joint ventures, partnership and insolvency as well as real property work in England and offshore.  Much of her work covers several disciplines and jurisdictions.  She has advised fund managers in relation to exits from underperforming sections of a UK hedge fund structured as an LLP, and acted for stranded investors in a failed BVI based hedge fund with a complex management structure.

In November 2005 Catherine led the team acting for the English Creditors’ Committee of BCCI SA in the private application to the Chancellor which immediately preceded the discontinuance of the Liquidators’ litigation against the Bank of England. She acts for the English creditors and the Luxembourg liquidators in relation to the closure of the liquidation of BCCI and has appeared for them in the Tribunal de Commerce in Luxembourg.  She was Leading Counsel to the DTI Inspectors in the inquiry into the flotation of Mirror Group plc.

Catherine has prosecuted in the Insolvency Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal, acts as an arbitrator and is an accredited mediator.  On 1st January 2005 she became the Chairman of the Inns of Court and Bar Educational Trust in succession to Sir Donald Rattee.
