John commenced his practice at 9 Old Square in March 1985. The majority of his work is and always has been litigation and other forms of dispute resolution (including mediations, and he is a CEDR accredited mediator, and arbitrations). He deals with a variety of disputes including general commercial matters as well as matters which have a genuine property, company or other Chancery description.
Recently he has been involved in High Court senior employment disputes (appearing in both the Dominion-Seidel and the Cheltenham-Laird litigation). His specialisms include civil fraud (for example Laird, and he was instructed in both the Barlow Clowes and Arrows litigation), company (in particular shareholder and director disputes), partnership (e.g. Browell v Goodyear), property (he appeared for the original landowner in the Malory v Cheshire land registration forged transfer litigation), banking (e.g. Hampton v Minns regarding co-guarantors) and professional negligence (especially lawyers, surveyors and accountants). A substantial element of his practice is located in the North West, and he is always ready to travel out of London. He is willing to consider acting under conditional fee agreements.
His personal interests include family, church, real tennis and bridge.
