Carolyn joined chambers after a successful career as a banking lawyer - first as Assistant Legal Advisor at Williams & Glyn’s Bank plc, and then Legal Advisor at Société Générale (London) - advising on all aspects of domestic and international banking. She also lectures on banking, credit and security law.

She now has a general Chancery practice, with an emphasis on banking, insolvency, consumer credit and property law. Carolyn receives a steady stream of instructions from the Bahamas, most recently acting for the liquidator of a Bahamian investment company in a substantial fraud. She also regularly advises on breaches of trust, constructive trust and negligence claims.

Notablecases in which Carolyn has been involved include Polly Peck (CA) (insolvency, constructive trust and fraud), Hindcastle v Barbara Attenborough (HL) (effect of disclaimer of lease by liquidator), Landhurst Leasing (directors’ disqualification), Arthur D Little Ltd v Ableco Finance (company law and registration of charges), two decisions on landlords’ consent to assignment of leases and In the estate of Rene Rivkin, (Cross-Border Regulation and Art. 8 of the Human Rights Act).

She was a member of the Bar Council from 1995 to 2005 and remains a member of its Finance Committee. She was also Secretary of the Chancery Bar Association from 2001 to 2005 and its Vice-Chairman from 2005 to 2008.

Carolyn is an accredited mediator for commercial disputes, is a contributor to Goode's Consumer Credit Law Encyclopaedia, and lectures on a range of subjects within the commercial Chancery and insolvency fields in the UK and overseas.
